TideTutor privacy policy
Last updated 18 October 2026.
TideTutor is made by The Protagonist Group Ltd ("we"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the TideTutor app on iPhone, iPad or Android, or this website.
The short version
The TideTutor app collects nothing. There is no account, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. The app never sends anything about you to us or to anyone else.
What stays on your device
To work, the app keeps a few things in its own storage on your device:
- the questions you've finished, whether you got them right first time, and any mistakes it spotted (this powers your progress, revision and free-question count);
- your exam date, if you choose to set one;
- whether you've seen the welcome screens;
- whether you've bought Full Access, so the app works offline.
This information never leaves your device and we can't see it. Deleting the app deletes it. On iPhone and iPad it may be included in your own device backups (iCloud or computer), which are covered by Apple's privacy policy, not ours.
Purchases
If you buy TideTutor Full Access, the payment is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your name, email address or payment details. Apple or Google tells the app only that the purchase is valid, so it can unlock the content and restore it on your other devices. Their privacy policies cover the purchase:
Apple and Google may give us anonymous, aggregated sales and usage statistics (for example, how many people downloaded the app in a week), and crash reports from users who have agreed to share them with developers. These don't identify you.
This website
This website has no cookies, analytics or tracking, and loads nothing from other sites while you browse it.
Launch emails
If you sign up on this website to hear when TideTutor launches, we collect your email address. We use it only to tell you when TideTutor is available and, at most, to send a few launch-related updates. We never sell it or share it with anyone else, and we never use it for advertising.
- Who stores it: our email provider, MailerLite, which keeps the list and sends the emails on our behalf. When you sign up, your browser sends your email address straight to them, and they also record the time and your IP address as a record of your consent.
- Our legal basis: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time.
- Unsubscribing: every email has an unsubscribe link, or email us and we'll remove you.
- How long we keep it: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, and in any case we delete the list once we no longer need it for the launch.
If you contact us
If you email us at support@tidetutor.com, we use your email address and message only to reply, and keep them only as long as needed to deal with your request. We never share them or add you to a mailing list.
Children
TideTutor is designed for adults studying sailing qualifications. The app doesn't collect personal information from anyone, of any age, and the launch email list is meant for people aged 16 and over.
Your rights
The only personal data we hold is your email address if you've joined the launch email list, and any emails you've sent us. You can ask us for a copy, to correct it, or to delete it, at any time, by emailing us. If you're on the launch list, you can also unsubscribe from any email. If you're in the UK or EU you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk).
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and the version in the app's store listing. If a change ever meant the app started collecting data, we'd say so clearly in the app before it happened.
